Genet, raised in a vibrant family where culinary expertise is a cherished tradition, discovered her love for authentic Ethiopian cuisine at a young age. Growing up in Harare, Ethiopia, she honed her skills by assisting at her grandparents' and eventually her parent’s restaurant and later expanded her experience by working at various restaurants and coffee shops upon moving to the United States.

The name Abem, derived from Gurage, a language spoken by one of Ethiopia's diverse ethnic tribes, means "God gave me." Cooking isn't just a skill for Genet; it's a rich heritage and blessing passed down through generations. 

Now, they eagerly invite you to experience Abem—a haven of delectable artisanal dishes and freshly brewed Ethiopian coffee. The restaurant embodies the essence of a continent's music and culture, seamlessly woven into the passion of its owners, Genet and Mezmur.
